It's that time of the year again. A time of bare trees and biting air; a time when people realize that Christmas is over but the cold is here to stay. A time when people look back and evaluate what they have accomplished (or not accomplished) in the last year. This time of year is dear to my heart.
Quite frankly, I was made for new year's resolutions. How so, you ask? I am a list-maker, a goal-setter, a task-accomplisher, etc. Each year I become excited just thinking about the better person I can become in the following year. I enjoy challenging myself with difficult, hardly attainable, resolutions. Humorously, year after year, I fail at the most simple, namely making my bed daily.
However, this year I have a resolution that I cannot attain in a single year, or a single lifetime, but it is a resolution that will shape my life and help me to better myself in every way possible. It is simply to live for Jesus more each day. Truth be told, I know this can only be achieved with the Lord's help. And for someone who likes to feel in control of her life, this is somewhat difficult to process. Nonetheless, the only true accomplishment that will matter in the end is what I did for the Lord. A favorite song lyric of mine puts it simply- "early things don't matter, they just fade and shatter when you're touched by love divine." So as 2011 approaches, I hope and pray that the little things in life will not get in the way of what matters most. That cute "bad boy" in class, the time I waste on facebook, the lack of respect I show to my parents... all these things may seem small, but they are sins that need to be eliminated.
2011 is inevitably going to be an eventful year for myself, but I pray with all my heart that it will be one of eternal significance. I pray that others will encounter the love, peace, and hope I have because of my relationship with Jesus.
